Dominican to Guatemala
I hope this note finds you in good health and in His Spirit.
The photos currently shown on this website are from the recent mission trip to the Dominican Republic in March 2011 that I had the privilege to participate in. My experiences during this mission have forever changed my heart and charted the course for the rest of my life.
To share a little background on this mission, in the summer of 2010 the Lord spoke to my heart and stated that I was to use my skills as chiropractor and functional neurologist in the service of His Kingdom. My directive was to assist in the restoration of the health of His people and to evangelize those who have not yet come to know Him. He told me “my days were numbered” and that I needed to get on with His work. I did not understand what He meant by “my days were numbered” and I realize that all our days are numbered. Nevertheless, did He mean that I would be leaving this world soon, or was it that I was soon to celebrate my 60th birthday, my life was half over and the other half was to used in His service? Just what did He mean?
As I prayed I realized I did not need to know what He had meant, but only to obey. For those that have known me, I am often deaf and dumb, stubborn and selfish, and independent and self-reliant. These attributes are not always in line with doing the Lord’s will but in this case He definitely had my attention.
One month before the Dominican Mission Trip I was invited to bea part of the medical team that was going to serve people living in villages out in the countryside and prisoners. The team make up was surgeons, family physicians, nurses and support staff. I was the only chiropractor. I did not have a current passport, nor did I have the funding to go.
Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. John 6:28-30
My wife, Jeannie and I spoke to the team leader, we prayed and received confirmation from the Lord that I was to go and every obstacle during the days following was miraculously removed.
When I left for Miami I still did not have a current passport in hand, nor did I have all the funding necessary but went on faith that all would be provided. When I arrived in Miami the day before I was to join the team for the flight over to the Dominican my passport was waiting at my hotel and the final funds necessary were deposited into my account.
The verses below from the King James Version (KJV)of the Bible came alive in my life as they witnessed to what God can do when we have faith and simply ask in Jesus’ name.
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:13
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. John 14:14
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. John 15:16
And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.John 16:23
Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. John 16:24
At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:John 16:26
I recently have been invited to go on a mission trip to Guatemala beginning on October 29, 2011 for eight days. My mission mates will include a portion of the medical team I worked with in the Dominican Republic. We again will be going to serve the people living in villages out in the countryside and prisoners. We had hoped that Jeannie would be also traveling with me on this mission but due to some unforeseen challenges she has elected to not come.
Unfortunately, during these last days before the mission commences our family has received some very difficult financial news. I have personally covered the approximately $2500.00 it costs for me be out of the office and my airline ticket has been purchased. However I am $1000.00 short of the funds necessary to go.
Please pray for our team and the success the Lord’s mission to Guatemala. Jeannie and I have prayed and again received confirmation from the Lord that every obstacle will be removed. We have faith that all will be forthcoming and I will be able to honor the Lord’s request of this service for His Kingdom. Below is a donation opportunity should you be moved by His Spirit to financially support this mission. Any contribution will be added to and multiplied for His Kingdom. May God Bless You and Keep You. In Jesus Name, Dr.
Lawrence and Jeannie Nelson
